Review: Vega Sport Protein Bar


I was so excited to be accepted as a SweatPink ambassador recently, and I was even more excited when I was chosen to review these awesome protein bars by Vega Sport as part of the Fuel Your Better campaign! When I was contacted that I was chosen, I was given a list of products to choose from. Full disclosure – there were a lot of products I didn’t choose simply because of the ingredients listed. As we all know, I am an anti-artificial sweetener champion, and there were some Vega Sport products that contained artificial sweeteners that I stayed away from.

There are not many products in the fitness nutrition area I feel that I need outside of Beachbody. I am ridiculously happy with my daily usage of Shakeology, P90X Energy and Endurance for pre-workout, and P90X Results and Recovery post-workout. I don’t have much of a need for anything else – but from time to time, I do enjoy a good protein bar. And a good one can surely be hard to find.

I was pleased as bunch to see Vega Sport’s Protein Bar line was made without the use of artificial sweeteners, and I knew instantly this was the product I wanted to try. I chose the delicious-sounding Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor, and I anxiously awaited its arrival.

When the box came, I was delighted to see I had more than a few, so I could share the bars with others for their opinions as well. I must say, I loved the flavor, and so did everyone I shared with! It’s rich and filling without any funny textures, and it has a sweet chocolatey peanut butter flavor. The only downfall that I can see is that no stores around me sell Vega products, so I’ll have to hunt these out online (not too big of a deal, but I do like the convenience of purchasing things from a store when possible to avoid shipping costs).

I highly recommend these bars to those looking for a yummy protein alternative to sub into their meal plans every now and then. Due to the sugar content, I don’t advise eating them daily – but they are a great go-to when on the run, or just wanting a fun change of pace.  (But honestly, this goes for nearly ALL protein bars I’ve encountered).

3 Day Refresh – Honest Review and Results



When I first heard about the 3-Day Refresh system from Beachbody, I was admittedly a little skeptical of how much could actually be accomplished with a 3-day cleanse. However, when I started hearing about and seeing results from my other teammates, I knew this was something I had to look in to.

I recently have been indulging a bit more in treats and sweets than I typically do – between summer parties, family in town, and the typical struggles of someone working full time, I found myself giving in to temptation in regards to food way more regularly – and the results were starting to show in my body. I decided what better time than now to try this 3-Day Refresh out – and I’m really happy that I made that choice! Here is my HONEST review of the 3-Day Refresh system.

I started the program on Tuesday (Monday just felt a bit too “rushed” for me, so I gave myself until Tuesday to prepare my meals and begin). I admittedly ate much of the same foods during the Refresh, as I found what worked for me and my palette and simply stuck with it.

The 3-Day Refresh is a scientifically designed program that helps you fast-track your weight loss, kick-start healthy eating, and get a clean break from bad nutrition habits. 3-Day Refresh is a simple, straightforward program that will help cleanse your body and improve the way you feel—without starving yourself. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking at least 75 ounces of filtered water every day

Each day of the 3-Day Refresh is broken down into the following schedule:


  • Breakfast – Shakeology + 1 fruit option
  • Tea Break – Unsweetened herbal or green tea
  • Late AM – Fiber sweep digestive drink


  • Lunch – Vanilla Fresh Shake + 1 fruit option + 1 veggie option + 1 healthy fat option
  • Snack – 1 veggie option + 1 healthy fat option OR 1 raw juice option
  • Tea Break – Unsweetened herbal tea


  • Dinner – Vanilla Fresh Shake + 1 option from Dinner Recipes List
  • Tea Break – Unsweetened herbal tea

I find that I work well when given a set schedule to follow, so I liked that each day was basically the same. By Day 2 I had already gotten the “hang” of it and didn’t need to reference my Refresh guide as frequently. Here are a couple of notations from my journey (sorry if they are a little sporatic, I made notes throughout and this is the results of that):

  • I’m not really a tea drinker, so I ignored the “tea breaks” and instead enjoyed water throughout the day. This is pretty typical for me anyways, so no big changes here.
  • The Fiber Sweep was not pleasant by any means, but I did get it down. This was definitely the “worst” part of the Refresh, but it really isn’t that bad. Tastes to me like watered down oatmeal mixed with vitamins. ::shrug:: Meh.
  • The Vanilla Fresh shake was actually delicious! I mixed with a few extracts (vanilla, almond) throughout to mix up my taste palette a bit so I didn’t get bored.
  • My typical dinner was a large salad. I found this was the best way for me to feel “full” alongside my dinner shake.
  • While the Refresh wasn’t HARD, I did find myself craving non-Refresh foods throughout the 3 Days – real honesty here! It didn’t help to watch my fiancé eat his yummy calorie-filled dinners, but I stayed strong and on schedule the entire 3 days, with no cheats! #proud
  • I advise you use Shakeology blender bottles to blend the Fiber Sweep /Vanilla Fresh shake. They don’t blend as well with ice as Shakeology does, and the blender bottle helps to remove “clumps” from the formula(s).
  • Drink lots of water! When detoxing through this system, its important to replenish your system by keeping hydrated.
  • Take it one day at a time. It’s only three days. You can do this! 

So, after all of this, what were my results?

3 Day Refresh

  • 3 pounds lost
  • Increased energy
  • Improved sleep
  • Inches lost! (Real honesty here, I never measured myself. Yikes! But I definitely SEE and FEEL the inches that are gone, and you can see them in the photo above, too!)

Overall, I am impressed with the 3-Day Refresh and the results it has given me. I notice a huge improvement in my body, as well as the foods I am now craving. I will definitely be keeping the Refresh in my “back pocket” for future upcoming events, especially the wedding next year! This is definitely an awesome way to quickly and easily shed that bloat and those extra pounds!

The Electric Run Cleveland


If there is one thing in this world that makes me really happy, its over the top fashion and a lot of FUN. Pair that with a healthy lifestyle and time with friends, and I am just over the moon excited.

This weekend I signed up Ry and I for The Electric Run in Cleveland, which will take place June 20th at the Cuyahoga County Fair. We are teaming up with a larger group of friends, so it should be an amazing time.

So, you’ve heard me talk a lot about the 21 Day Fix before. The program, designed by (the ridiculously beautiful) Autumn Calabrese, is both a fitness program and a portion controlled meal plan, all in one. For those who may have missed my previous posts, you can read about the program in its entirety here.

I decided about a month ago to take the challenge and do the 21 Day Fix program with some other folks in a Challenge Group. I have to admit, it seemed rather intimidating when I first read about it. How restrictive would it be? Would I be hungry all the time? Would I be missing out on all of my favorite foods?

Well, three weeks later, here I am… and I have to say the answer to all of those questions is a clear and definite no.

The 21 Day Fix program, for me, was a blessing. Having been with Beachbody for over two years now, I have a few of their programs under my best – Brazil Butt Lift, TurboFire, ChaLEAN Extreme… I love them all. However, after I grew tired of logging all of my calories onto MyFitnessPal each and every day, I noticed my weight began to plateau, and eventually after the holiday season and then the rough circumstances regarding my father, began to increase, around 8 pounds or so. Even though I was keeping up with my workouts, my results weren’t the same, and in fact, they were shrinking. The problem laid entirely within my eating.

I had begun eating larger portions – even if it was with healthy food options! – losing track of what a “normal” portion size should really look like (not just the image I had in my head – a fist? a giant fist?).

21dayfix_containersThen, I found the Fix. Autumn’s easy-to-follow container system literally lays it all out for you. There’s a container for each type of food group (yellow – carbs, red – protein, and so on..) and you simply are allotted a certain amount of each container each day. That’s it. If it fits, you can eat it. 

Warning: the containers look tiny when you first get the package. My first reaction was “EEEK THESE ARE SO SMALL!” (yes, that was my exact phrasing, too), but once I fill them up and place them on a plate, it actually comes out to be a lot of food. Sometimes, I can’t even finish it all.

Now, the 21 Day Fix does come with a handy meal planning guide that I highly recommend you reference at every turn, at least for the first week or so. It lists healthy suggestions for each container, as well as providing some awesomely delicious recipes for all meals of the day, as well as salad dressings and spice mixes you can use to really jazz up your meals – with no added calories. These recipes have been lifesavers to me! It’s a great starting off point, especially if this “way” of eating is new to you.

And guess what?

There are freebies and cheats, too! Yes, really.

And yes, I ate pizza during The 21 Day Fix. On a different day, I had a burger. Yup, seriously. All 21-Day Fix “approved”.

And I lost 4 pounds.

Now, the 21 Day Fix isn’t all about the food you know. You do gotta break a sweat, too ;)

But I have to say, even at 7 days a week, it feels very manageable because the workouts are only 30 minutes each. I literally had no days where I couldn’t “find the time” to workout – there was always an opportunity to squeeze in 30 minutes. The workouts range from very intense to complete recovery – and I love them all dearly. Each day you are focusing completely on a different part of your body, so your system never gets “bored” and also isn’t prone to injury.  It would be hard to pick a favorite workout, since they are all pretty awesome for various reasons, but I really enjoy Dirty 30 (that just sounds fun, right?!), Pilates Fix and Yoga Fix a lot.

Today I am beginning Round 2 of the program with even more people in the Challenge Group who have been so excited with our results from Round 1 that they decided to jump on board too! I am excited to see what another 21 Days bring – I can imagine only great things!

Missing you, Dad…

I know I’ve been rather unavailable here lately guys, and I apologize. It’s been such a difficult few weeks, I just haven’t had any energy to post – nor desire, because I knew what I’d be writing about…

On March 21st, I lost the first man I’ve ever loved in the world – my father. He died after a lifetime battle with Crohn’s disease, along with a lengthy list of complications and other health issues. His body had just had enough, and could not hold his bright spirit any longer – he was taken home into the loving arms of God.

I am grateful to say that he went peacefully, surrounded by the people he loved most in this world. Hillcrest Hospital also did an amazing job of keeping us all comfortable that day, and I am just beyond grateful for all they did for our family. It was a beautiful, albeit incredibly sad, experience.

Dad, it’s not the same here without you. Thank you for a lifetime of memories and life lessons, you will stay with me always until we can one day meet again…

Music Monday – Iggy Azalea


It’s been quite some time since I’ve featured anything for Music Monday. Quite frankly, I just haven’t been all that inspired – until now!

If you’ve been following me on any sort of social media lately, you’ve probably heard me mention Iggy Azalea. Since stumbling upon her “Clueless”-inspired music video for “Fancy” a week or so ago (one word: genius), I’ve had what songs I can find of hers on repeat on my iPhone nonstop. Her songs “Work” and “Change Your Life” have become personal anthems of mine, and I’ve since pre-ordered her new album, “The New Classic”, set for release in April. I’m literally counting down the days on my calendar until its release.

Iggy is a fresh talent with a unique spin on rapping. The voice that comes out of the mouth of this babe surely is not expected, but it is oh-so welcomed. Australian-born Iggy is  basically Nicki Minaj + Gwen Stefani + a true to life Barbie, and her sound is infectious and fun – but her lyrics also have depth and tell a story of who she is and where she comes from, which is very inspiring.

Oh, did I mention she’s gorgeous too? Yeah… this girl is going to be a force. I just love her style.
