If there is one thing I am a sucker for, and can truly not give up no matter how hard I try, is dessert. I don’t eat sweets with every meal, but dinner just doesn’t feel the same unless I can have something sweet and savory afterwards. This has become one of my largest fitness hurdles, as late night snacking and desserts are a very easy way to throw off your entire day, nutritionally speaking. The whole process becomes even more difficult while I am sharing a couch with my beloved, whom can snack on an entire large bag of M&Ms in one sitting with so much of a second thought. The “old me” would dive right in next to him, helping him polish off the bag. But these days, I’m trying to be smarter about my choices.
One of my favorite “treat” foods has always been yogurt. Always a staple in my refrigerator, I’ve been enjoying yogurt of many different brands and flavors since I was a little girl. However, as an adult who focuses on healthy eating, I’ve modified my yogurt buying habits to include characteristics that are important to me: low calorie, high protein, and absolutely NO artificial sweeteners (probably the most important thing to me on the list).
These factors can make finding a delicious and satisfying yogurt difficult at best. The low calorie yogurts are typically laden with toxic chemicals (Splenda, Sucralose, Aspartame, etc…) and the ones that leave it out are usually quite high in calories.
Chobani has been my yogurt brand of choice for about the past year or so. I started off trying their standard 6oz flavor varieties, and was very impressed with the taste, consistency and protein content. However, they were actually a little large in size and I usually ended up eating them in two sittings (as a snack). I then moved on to Chobani Champions, their product targeted towards children, as the smaller 3.5oz size was much more of a better fit – not to mention the flavors are simply heavenly. Some of my favorite that still make their way into my fridge are: Vanilla Chocolate Chunk, Very Berry and Orange Vanilla – which tastes like an Orangesicle!
Most recently, Chobani has a new product out called Chobani Bite. Available in 3.5oz sizes, Bite is available in four amazingly delicious flavors: Raspberry with Dark Chocolate Chips, Fig with Orange Zest, Caramel with Pineapple Chunks and my personal favorite, Coffee with Dark Chocolate Chips.
Being a fan of coffee flavored yogurt since, well, birth, I was always sad to see there were no healthy Greek Yogurt options offered in this flavor. I was totally overjoyed to see it was part of the Bite line, and it was the first one I tried of the bunch. I have yet to try the Fig and Caramel flavors, but I am eager to try them since they sound so unique and refreshing.
