Colgate® Optic White® Regimen – Artificially Sweetened?!

influenster_colgateI received this Colgate® regimen for toothpaste, mouthwash and a toothbrush from Influenster in my Sugar n Spice VoxBox that I blogged about previously. I was very excited to try these products, as I’d seen them in various stores promising an improvement in teeth whitening in only a week. In fact, I was running low on my toothpaste supply when this package arrived, so it seemed like perfect timing.

gotitfrominfluensterThis weekend I officially ran out of my previous brand of toothpaste, so I decided it was the perfect day to give the Colgate® products a try. I opened the toothbrush packaging, as well as the toothpaste and started brushing. The toothpaste had decent taste (for toothpaste) and I had some getting used to with the toothbrush as I have been an electrical toothbrush user for years now, but it had a nice comfortable feel, and I had no problems reaching all of the teeth in my tiny mouth.

After I was done brushing, I continued one with the Optic White® Mouthwash and rinsed. That’s when things got a little interesting…

Within about 5 minutes, I noticed I was developing a strong headache. A headache that I’ve had before, but thankfully haven’t experienced in quite some time – but I recognized it right away as being the same headache that I associate with consuming artificial sweeteners. With all the changes in my diet over the past year, I’ve completely eliminated the use of sweeteners such as aspartame, Sucralose, and acesulfame potassium – and the headaches I endured frequently in the past had all been eliminated. The swollen feeling in my head, lightheaded feeling, and pressure on my skull, are all things that I now can easily relate to the consumation of these products. Apart from mountains of research that’s been done to prove how toxic and dangerous these “sweetening” chemicals are, the feeling I get from intaking them alone are reason enough to never consume them ever again.

I thought to myself “Why am I getting an artificial sweetener headache now? What have I eaten recently?” Having eaten nothing, it occured to my that I had just tried these new Colgate® products – and sure enough, when I looked at the packaging for both the toothpaste and mouthwash – they both included the highly toxic chemical Sucralose. I was floored.

Why on earth does Colgate® feel the need to sweeten toothpaste?! Last time I checked, the last thing I was looking for in a dental care brand was a “sweet flavor”. This is simply ridiculous. I am disgusted that I even tried these products once.

I even checked the packaging of my previous toothpaste, another product by Colgate®, ironically – and NO Sucralose was included. What gives?! Why now?!GradeF

Colgate®, this is something I do not approve of. I will not be using these products anymore (other than the toothbrush) and I am disappointed that you have gone down this route. Two giant thumbs down!
